What Is Naturopathic Medicine?

Nat Med Week Ad.jpg

Natural Medicine begins with an understanding that your body was designed with the ability to heal itself. Its function is to maintain a healthy balance (homeostasis) to keep us functioning at optimum levels. Focusing on nutrition, exercise, and a lifestyle that support your body’s naturally healthy state, naturopathic physicians offer personalized plans to combine modern medicine with nature to help you maximize your body’s ability to not only treat disease, but restore and maintain optimal health.

Natural medicine begins with helping you identify and remove the environmental and dietary elements that inhibit your body’s healthy functions, addressing the root causes of your symptoms so your health can be greatly improved.

Naturopathic physicians are serious about patient education, knowing that the better you are able to understand how to nurture yourself, the more likely you are to enjoy the best health possible. They see the whole person, not just disconnected symptoms - and they work with you to achieve the robust health you desire and deserve.

Using time-tested procedures, your treatment plan is customized to fit the way your body needs to heal itself. Naturopathic physicians treat the body in the most natural and gentle way possible, and if necessary, can prescribe pharmaceuticals.  Naturopathic physicians are board-certified, licensed healthcare providers, having undergone extensive academic and applied training to treat their patients using many different modalities. Naturopathic physicians' education includes the same clinical studies as MDs (anatomy, immunology, OB/GYN, cardiology, endocrinology, pathology, etc.). In addition, Naturopathic physicians' education includes 4 years of study in biochemistry of the body, nutrition, and alternative modalities to treat the Cause of the Dis-ease.

What To Expect on Your First Visit

When you come in for your first appointment, it won’t take long to notice a big difference. Your naturopathic physician will spend time with you, listening, getting a complete health history, asking about your life, your diet, your previous labs, your medications and supplements, your stressors, and your concerns. Your initial visit may take up to one and a half hours to gather the information needed to assess your overall health, diagnose any problems, and create a completely customized treatment plan.
